Seeking help from NOAS
NOAS provides assistance primarily with asylum cases. If you need help regarding family reunion, deportation, visa or citizenship, you can contact Juss Buss.
What we do
NOAS provides general information on asylum procedures and criteria for asylum. For general enquiries contact us via:
Telephone: 22 36 56 60
Monday – Friday, 09.30-12.00 or 13.00-15.30
E-mail: noas@noas.org
NOAS also provides free legal aid for asylum matters. In practice, this means that we write an additional statement to the lawyer’s complaint if an asylum seekers application is rejected by UDI (the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration). The additional statement is intended to elaborate on the lawyer’s complaint. We can also write to seek for revision of a decision if an asylum case is rejected by UNE (Utlendingsnemnda, or the Norwegian Immigration Appeals Board). If a lawyer has already sent a request for a change of decision to UNE, NOAS can write a supplementary statement.
Types of cases we support
NOAS goes through all enquiries in order to assess the help we can provide. NOAS receives many cases, and therefore has to prioritize cases where we can make significant contributions. We particularly prioritize the following cases:
- We consider how risky it will be for you to return to your home country as a critical determinant as to whether you need our assistance. We systematically gather information about the most risky countries and undertake travels to seek factual information.
- How good the help provided by your lawyer is. In the case your lawyer has done all what should be done, NOAS will rarely provide help. NOAS may at times choose to offer help in exceptional cases of principle relevance.
- Whether we think it is realistically possible to convince the immigration authorities to revoke their stance on the rejection of your case. It is usually difficult for NOAS to assist you if you have already received a disapproval letter from UNE. In such cases it is normally important to provide new information to enable us to offer the required help.
Contacting us for support
Send us the following documents if you would like us to review your case:
- a copy of your interview
- the decision from UDI/UNE
- your lawyer’s complaint letter
If there are documents that you do not have, you can obtain copies of these from your lawyer. If it is not possible to get copies from your lawyer, we will be able to do this on your behalf. If there are other documents that are not mentioned in the above and you think will be relevant for your asylum application, you may also send these to us.
You must remember to send us your postal address and telephone number. Kindly print out and complete the form below. You may send all documents to us either by post or fax:
Mailing address: NOAS, Post box 8893 Youngstorget, 0028 Oslo
Fax number: 22 36 56 61
We will review your case as soon as possible. NOAS receives many cases and therefore has limited capacity. As a result it usually takes a few weeks before we are able to assess your case. We always try as much as possible to prioritize cases that are urgent. After we review your case, you will be informed about whether or not we can help you.
